Since 2023, Caspian Engineering Solutions has been providing inspection services for drill pipes and tubulars used in the operations of SOCAR’s Complex Drilling Works Trust, in full compliance with the international DS-1 CAT 5 standard. The main objective of this service is to ensure the accurate technical assessment of downhole equipment, timely detection of potential risks, and prevention of failures during drilling operations.

As part of this project, drill pipes, heavy weight drill pipes, drill collars, and various diameter tubulars are subjected to comprehensive inspections by experienced professionals. These inspections include both visual and dimensional examinations, allowing for the detection of cracks, deformations, and structural defects on the surface of the pipes. In addition, non-destructive testing (NDT) methods are applied to identify internal and subsurface flaws and signs of metal fatigue. Advanced techniques such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle inspection (MT) are utilized during this phase.

Furthermore, the threaded connections, overall condition of tool joints, and wear levels on load-bearing surfaces are carefully analyzed. Using precision measurement tools and mechanical testing procedures, the equipment’s compliance with DS-1 standards is verified, and comprehensive inspection reports are generated. Based on the results, each item is classified as either "fit for use" or "rejected", with repair or replacement recommendations provided when necessary.

This inspection service ensures the technical reliability of pipes and tubulars in use, minimizes operational risks, reduces unscheduled downtime, and helps maintain continuous drilling operations. The outcomes of the project significantly contribute to both safety assurance and the technical and economic efficiency of drilling activities.
